RISE Life Management Services

The aim is to make participants aware of their rights as human beings. Providing the history of how rights have come about and educating Jamaican youth about the 20 fundamental rights. Youth are involved in interactive workshops as a method of learning. In addition, train the trainer sessions are lead to empower youth leaders to become advocates in their home school.

To train 40 youth leaders within highschools as well as reaching 2,000 students through workshops and sensitizing 20,000 through general assembly.

32 youth leaders in Clarendon and 24 in Prebrook Hall school. 1,200 have been reached out of 2,000 so far.

As an agency with strong community ties and an excellent reputation for timely and effective service delivery, RISE Life Management Services (RISE) is an integral player in Jamaica’s national response to the fight to reduce HIV transmission among key populations as well as to equip persons with the requisite skills to achieve viral suppression and for Jamaica to reach its 90-90-90 goal. RISE uses a cadre of Peer Educators to reach key populations with sexual and reproductive health information and to provide Voluntary Counselling and Testing.

Prevention education to youth in primary and high schools and counselling and treatment services for youth suspended from school and sent through the Adolescent Drug Court. Intervention funded by CHASE and the Betting Gaming & Lotteries Commission

Life & Social Skills Training intervention for girls remanded at the South Camp Juvenile Rehabilitation Facility.Includes the training of staff in administering Life & Social Skills education to wards using effective training methodologies. Intervention funded by the Organization of American States (OAS)

 

RISE Timeline

1989/1990 – Addiction Alert Organization (AAO) established

Opened the first outpatient drug treatment programme in Jamaica

1993 – Drug prevention school-based program established

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) established for company employees.

EU donation facilitates purchase of new home at 57 East Street

1994 – Telephone Lifeline counselling line for addictive disorders established.

Endowment Fund established to ensure sustainable of RISE.

1997 – Adolescent Drug Prevention Programme launched in six volatile inner-city

communities to promote healthy, drug free lifestyle among high-risk youth

2000 – Stimulating Young Minds to Become Achievers (SYMBA) created providing

remedial education & life skills training in inner-city communities

2004 – Citizen Security and Justice Programme (CSJP) launched with support from

Ministry of National Security & Justice.

2005 – Addiction Alert changes its name to RISE Life Management Services (Reaching

Individuals through Skills and Education)

Responsible gaming, prevention and treatment program established, funded by the

Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission.

2007 – RISE wins international award from Harvard Medical School for Adolescent

Gambling Research

2010 – 20th Anniversary celebrating 20 years of community service to Jamaica. 3 former

board members honoured: Rafael Diaz, Peter Thwaites & Anthony Lindo

2011 – Poverty Reduction (PRP2) EU funded, through JSIF

2012 – Community Upliftment & Human Rights Project, EU Funded

2012 – Prince Harry official visit to Rise Life

2012 – Multi Purpose Training Room built with funding from Digicel & NCB Foundations.

2012 – Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program established, funded by CHASE and

National Health Fund

2013 – EU funded Child Empowerment and Rehabilitation Program.

2014 – Global Fund HIV Awareness program launched, offering HIV testing and

education – further expanding the reach of RISE.

2015 – EU funded programs Finding my Voice (phase 1) targeting reduction of child

sexual abuse and PROMAC, program for the Reduction of Maternal and Child Mortality

2016 – EU funded Civil Society Boost Initiative (CSBI) focusing on capacity building, sub-

granting, micro-franchising and networking

2018 – FHI 360 USAID funding project aims to transform RISE into an Intermediate

Service Organization (ISO), to provide capacity building to community NGO & CBOs
