My name is Kerry-Ann Ellington-Robinson.
When I think about “Rise” I cannot help smiling.
It was the summer of 1997 I was about to graduate from Holy Trinity High school. I wondered where life would take me now, and what was in store for me. I was so proud of all the achievements that I had made and to graduate with the highest honor a girl could ask for “head girl” I was turning…

My days at AAO was a fulfilling one, being a part of a vibrant, intelligent and hard working bunch of super people. I came to the organization as a teen mom not sure of what I wanted to do at the time. When I was introduced to the performing arts, which I still actively take part in. I had dropped out of school at the age of 16 and AAO had given me an opportunity to take my SSCs and CXCs….

My journey with AAO several years ago began in high school (Donald Quarrie High), when I was recruited as a peer education. Angela Pryce (Plunkett) was at the helm of the Programme at the time and introduced myself and many of my peers to the first residential training at Kendall camp, this was in the mid 1990s. The camp brought together youth from various schools and walks of life under one…

I was introduced to RISE Life Management Services about 5 years ago by my youth club – The LEAD Youth Club. Since then my life has totally been transformed. RISE has developed my life in several instrumental ways and I can without a doubt say that without it I would  not have been the young man I am today.

From the initial stages, in fourth…

My GSAT experience at RISE Life Management Services was a memorable one.  If I could do it again, I surely would. The first time I came here I was a little shy, but after a while I became a little more confident. I got the opportnity to revise what I learnt at school. Everyday I would come and go on the Go GSAT site. I learnt things under the topics Science, Language Arts, Mathematics,…

I worked as an assistant on the RISE Summer Camp 2010 and JSIF  Summer Camp 2010 Programmes. The RISE Summer Camp 2010 is an annual camp which is held to help young individuals build friendships, to develop leadership skills and life skills. I particularly learnt how to use these qualities in my daily lifestyle choices. The JSIF Summer Camp 2010 was similar in goals with a slight twist….

This impact of the programme on my child led me to attend the parenting workshop at the same centre to see how I could deal with him and others like him. While attending the meetings, I was able to share with others my situation and others shared their stories also which helped me to realize that others are in similar positions like me. This made me feel a lot better. My troubles were not…

There we saw more changes in his behaviour. When I forget that he should go by RISE he would remind me. At times he would even head off to the office by himself and I would get a call that he is there. RISE Life Management Services SYMBA programme has taught him how to be a better reader, how to manage conflicts, not to fight, proper hygiene practices ( grooming altogether ) and he has even…

I am proud to say that my son has improved in a lot of his subjects such as Maths, Reading, English and Spanish.  He is also more willing to do things that he never use to do such as tidying up his room. Thank you RISE for the support to my child.
