Rise wins AMCHAM Award September 2013

PROFESSOR Barrington Watson admits that he was shocked at receiving the 2013 American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica (AMCHAM) Business and Civic Leadership Lifetime Achievement Award.

"I've contributed to visual arts in Jamaica, with no idea that I would ever get an award like this," he said. " I'm shocked and happy, all I did was play my part."

Watson, a master painter, was lauded for his contribution to the development of art and the building of institutions to suport the profession of art in Jamaica. He was one of the 12 individuals and companies that were honoured at the AMCHAM Business and Civic Leadership Awards for Excellence at the Jamaica Pegasus onTuesday.

So big a pool of nominees to choose from, AMCHAM expanded the awards to include runner ups in each of the three main categories -corporate social responsibility, civic leadership and arts and culture.

The individual AMCHAM Award of Excellence for Civic Leadership was given to Gary "Butch" Hendrickson who was recognised for his quiet and generous philanthropic effort and contributions Kenny Benjamin was the runner up and was honoured for his social and environmental development of Jamaica.

RISE Life Management Services was the first place winner for the Award of Excellence for Civic Leadership. It operated the island's first outpatient centre for addictive disorders.
