Based on the Organization’s experience over the years, the direction and focus of its programmes have been reviewed and adjusted in order to meet the current needs of young people at risk in Jamaica, particularly those living in inner-city communities. In order to reflect these developments, the organization changed its name in 2005 to RISE, which is an acronym for Reaching Individuals through Skills and Education.
RISE’s programmes and activities will reflect all those which were previously been carried out by Addiction Alert, including the major community intervention for at-risk youth known as SYMBA – Stimulating Young Minds to Become Achievers. This programme includes the provision of Educational, Social and Life Management services to adolescents whose academic competencies are below their grade levels.

A cadre of highly trained, experienced trainers who are culturally aware, and who understand the environment in which participants live and are sensitive to their needs.

All training programmes utilize interactive and participatory methodologies. Where appropriate, drama, dance and music are utilized as teaching techniques.
